Many people suffer from problems with their temporomandibular joint without knowing they are suffering from TMJ. The temporomandibular joint connects the lower jaw to the area of the skull located in front of the ear on either side of the face. This joint allows the jaw to move when your mouth moves, such as when yawning, talking, or chewing.
If you have unexplained headaches or aches in the neck, shoulders or upper back, experience a clicking or popping noise in your jaw or your jaw locks when you open your mouth, have pain or swelling in your face, or are experiencing discomfort in your jaw or facial muscles, you may be suffering from TMJ. Left untreated, TMJ can lead to tooth damage and loss that can necessitate surgery to correct. If you suspect you have TMJ, contact us to schedule a consultation and discuss your symptoms.
